Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris (2000)

Artist: Lykathea Aflame
Country: Czech Republic
Genre: Death Metal/Experimental

This band combines Cync like jazz, with Gorguts like timing, finally mixed with gutturals Defeated Sanity would be jealous of. Sounds like an odd combination, but it is very fun and different.

Straight up hardcore. A lot like Agnostic Front, and its really angry, and humorous at times. What else can I say......well....other than this is one of my favorite hardcore albums.

Killing The Dream - Fractures (2008)

Artist: Killing The Dream

Some well known hardcore that kicks ass. Its predictable in many cases, but also insanely fun to listen to.

Melodic black metal thats really good. They use brutality and speed, then they compliment it with melancholy atmospheres. And the album cover is sick!

Dark ambient mixed with jazz. If you aren't a fan of jazz this is a good place to start. It has a more modern feel and makes it easier to slip into the older stuff.

Touche Amore - Parting The Sea Between Brightness And Me (2011)

Artist: Touche Amore

Some hardcore/screamo that is amazing in lyrics and model. Their debut was amazing, but this is even better. Short songs and an over all short length but it is made up for in emotion and dissonance.

My Favorite Death Metal Albums

Death metal is by far my favorite genre. The idea of it inspires me to like all sorts of music. While this list isn't the most accessible list of all time, it has some of the well known classics on it. Nothing too obscure on here, but for people who want to learn more about death metal, these are some of the greatest releases (and my personal favorites.)

11. In Flames - The Jester Race (1996)

You may be wondering, why is In Flames on a death metal list? Well, once upon a time, In Flames played death metal. Yes you heard it. Long ago, before they became terrible metalcore, the band was to be one of the first melodic death metal acts. They were even pretty good. While this album wouldn't make most peoples top albums, I like it.

10. Pestilence - Consuming Impulse (1989)

A Dutch death/thrash metal band. They are speedy and the vocals are rough, but they can be pretty catchy at times. The album cover is pretty cool (which is common in death metal.) The old version of the cover was banned because it was to explicit, so the record company replaced it with this one. Needless to say, the band was not impressed.

9. Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream (1991)

Power full epic soundscapes. These guys play straight up death metal, with catchy riffs and melodic ambiance. The band is well known for covering themselves in pigs blood during live shows and photo shoots.
www.mediafire.com/?llwxit3q2z1

8. Suffocation - Pierced From Within (1995)

A classic from New York brutal death metallers, Suffocation. Easily one of the most brutal out of any death metal albums I've ever heard.
www.mediafire.com/?kemtbxmiax9

7. Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal (2005)

Veteran death metallers Bolt Thrower's last album, was by far their best. That said, they have had a very solid career and all their albums have a lot of merit. They are well known for their war themed lyrics, and how they convey a heavy death metal sound without having to use blast-beats.
www.mediafire.com/?wgzn5hn2gzm

6. Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness (1989)

Seen to many as the greatest death metal album of all time. It was a revolution in metal. It's twisted vocals and very dark and demented subject matter set it apart from the more thrash influenced death metal that helped start the genre. It is a definate essential for those looking into death metal.

5. Immolation - Close to a World Below (2000)

Immolation is one of those bands that create a universal formula they can use over and over again without getting stale. They found the perfect balance to get by. Like Bolt Thrower, their career hasn't yeilded a single bad album. They are well known for their odd time signatures, extremely brutal vocal style and most of all their erratic and sometimes indecipherable drum timing.

4. Autopsy - Mental Funeral (1991)

Autopsy is well known for their doom influenced brand of death metal. Their songs often have poetic structures and extremely slow tempos. The production value is not very good, but it adds to their crunchy sound.
www.mediafire.com/?2zi5n0yy0i

3. Demilich - Nespithe (1993)

Demilich is by far the oddest death metal band to exist in the 90's. They are characterized by their strange lyrics, cryptography, odd timed riffs that boggle the mind and most of all, the fact that all the vocals seem to be in the form of burps. I can't say that everyone will like this, but I can say this album is one of the most important death metal albums ever made.
www.mediafire.com/?bxtuxbxbdtl

2. Death - Symbolic (1995)

The album Symbolic has been subject to tons of debate. Its a well known fact that Death is one of the inventors of death metal, but what no one can definitively decide on is which album is their best. Many purists cite that their first three albums are the best because it has a more traditional death metal sound. Many other cite that their final four have much better song writting and therefore they are better. Whatever the case, most agree that Death as a whole is the greatest Death metal band of all time, and I full heartedly agree. Not only do they have a solid discography, but they have a spectacular career. Every album they have ever written is complete gold. Many say Symbolic (which is their sixth album) is the greatest metal album to ever exist. I have to say not only that, but it just might be one of the greatest albums in general ever to be written.

1. Cryptopsy - None so Vile (1996)

Finally, my personal favourite death metal album is None So Vile. It is often revered for is massive influence on all of death metal. Cryptopsy uses speed, brutality and subtle but intelligent lyrics to get its point across. Lord Worm's vocals are crazed and wild, and no matter how you try, you'll never be able to understand them. I'm not quite sure why I like this album so much, but it is definatly a classic.

Mac Lethal - North Korean BBQ (2011)

Artist: Mac Lethal
Country: US
Genre: Hip-Hop

Goofy white people. Thats the last thing you think of when you think of "rap." Why? Because, goofy white people have no self awareness when it comes to rap. They start writing and suddenly think that maybe Eminem isn't the only white guy who can write worth shit, but they are wrong. There is a big exception to this, and its name is Mac Lethal. Mac Lethal is goofy, he's somewhat uncool. The thing that sets him apart from the others is that he is aware. He knows how goofy he looks, and how he isn't tradition, but thats what makes him so good. He knows the pitfalls of rap cliches, but rather than avoiding them he often twists them around to match his off-beat style. His lyrics are damn smart, and very insightful. Sometimes they are cheesy, but he acknowledges that. North Korean BBQ is Mac Lethal's masterpiece. Its fun, smart, and catchy, not to mention the speed. Mac Lethal is by far the fastest rapper I've ever heard (youtube his fast raps if you wanna see.) Whether or not you like him, he has skills.

Here is some real metalcore. Straight and simple, this is about as "metalcore" as it gets. It has a larger hardcore influence than most metalcore, but you'll still hear a lot of thrashy riffs thrown in there.

I've been on a drone kick lately. These guys make drone very similar to Sunn O))), in some ways even better. This drone has vocals though, often in the form of humming, and only keyboard and bass. Enjoy!

Sunn O))) - Black One (2005)

Artist: Sunn O)))
Country: US
Genre: Drone

The essential droners. Ridiculously long songs that build eerie ambient landscapes. Dark in some ways, but also quite comforting. For those who aren't familiar with the drone, its very slow, very long, very ambient and there often aren't any vocals. The kind of thing you play just to drift off into nothingness.

Artist: Gorement

Genre: Death Metal

Old school death metal classic. One of my favorites. The logo is insane, and if you want to see something funny look at the logo for Bloodbath, because its shameful how badly they ripped off Gorement. Coincidence or not, c'mon, its Gorement! No way to be a death metal band and not know about them.

HORSE The Band - Desperate Living (2009)

Artist: HORSE The Band
Country: US
Genre: Metalcore/Experimental

HORSE The Band is perhaps the oddest metalcore band to ever exist. Their singer once jokingly voiced the word "nintendocore" which is what they are now known for. NES style 8 bit synthesizers paired with....insanity...to say the least. Spazzy guitars, and crazed off key vocals give the band a sound that is very unique. They can be angry, as well as calm, and at many points just plain goofy. In all seriousness, this isn't serious. If you are looking for deep, artful, eye opening music, then this probably won't suffice. But this record is fun as hell, and it will definitely bring out your "inner nerd."

Whourkr - Concrete (2008)

Artist: Whourkr
Country: France
Genre: Breakcore/Death Metal

Over the history of music, we have those progressive musicians  that decide mixing two genres together will create something amazing. This in many instances is true. Thrash metal was born when heavy metal and punk were tastefully stitched together. It was a hugely important moment in music. That alone is a problem in todays music, and not in the good way thrash metal was. Many boisterous musicians try to jam two or more genres together without actual song writing skills, or originality included. This has spawned musical abortions like Abandon All Ships, BrokenCyde and Attack! Attack! So....it seems like mixing electronic and death metal would lead to a legacy just as awful, and pretentious, but Whourkr knows exactly how to blend the styles evenly without sounding...well...terrible. They successfully mixed the two genres to make an album that can only be described as pure insanity. It has the heavy beats you'd expect in electronic music, and the thundering guitar you would expect from death metal. Not to mention each song is brilliant in its own way. If you are looking for something truly unique, this is your best bet.

Last Chance To Reason - Level 2 (2011)

Artist: Last Chance To Reason
Country: US

This is a really spacey album. Cynic-like vocals paired with ambient synth based passages. The deathcore tag is used lightly because its its pretty hard to classify this. Its basically deathcore without over-using breakdowns and djent style riffs.
